Advancing Cancer Screening Education in Primary Care

Cancer Control

At iMPROve Health, we bring deep expertise in designing and implementing quality improvement programs that empower care teams to address cancer prevention and early detection, particularly in primary care settings where trust and access converge.

As part of the Michigan Cancer Control Initiative, we partnered with primary care teams to improve awareness and increase screening for lung, breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers. Our team delivered targeted education, shared decision-making tools, customized technical support, and optimized electronic health record workflows to enhance lung cancer screening efforts. This work aligned with the Michigan Cancer Plan (2021–2030) and the CDC’s goals to improve cancer outcomes.

Lung Cancer Screening Education Module

Education 01 01

To further support care teams, we developed an on-demand eLearning module focused on lung cancer screening, which is the leading cause of cancer deaths in Michigan. This training equips providers with practical strategies to build referral processes, identify eligible patients, and encourage tobacco cessation. It is ideal for physicians, primary care teams, and healthcare professionals who want to improve lung cancer screening practices.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the impact of lung cancer and the importance of early detection
  • Learn current screening guidelines and eligibility criteria
  • Explore referral workflows and shared decision-making
  • Identify related quality measures
  • Access resources to support screening and tobacco cessation

Enhancing Cancer Screening Through Community Collaboration

Community Awareness 01

The EMBRACE project, funded by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS), enhanced the early detection of breast and cervical cancers, particularly in populations facing health disparities. We hosted a 9-month ECHO bringing together 31 healthcare providers across Michigan to improve cancer screening and treatment pathways. The project significantly boosted participants’ ability to address the specific challenges of underserved populations.
