President & CEO

Dr. Leland Babitch is iMPROve Health’s president and CEO. His more than 20 years of healthcare experience includes a broad range of leadership positions that encompass clinical expertise, health information technology and healthcare quality improvement. Dr. Babitch also has extensive experience in strategic planning, analytics, critical decision making, and organizational development and governance.

Prior to joining iMPROve Health, Dr. Babitch served as an executive medical director at Clinovations, a subsidiary of The Advisory Board Company, where he worked on several large-scale Cerner implementations. He also has served as a subject matter expert for projects ranging from revenue cycle/documentation/coding improvement to charitable work around pediatric food insecurity. Prior to that, Dr. Babitch served as a senior vice president and the chief medical information officer (CMIO) for the Detroit Medical Center (DMC), an eight-hospital system in the Detroit area. He was responsible for EHR operations, training and development for more than 2,500 staff physicians and 800+ residents and fellows. As a member of the DMC senior management team and clinical transformation enterprise, Dr. Babitch achieved HIMSS Stage 6 recognition, Meaningful Use Stage 1, and Leapfrog CPOE recognition for all his eligible sites. He also participated as a primary author on the successful bid for a Beacon Grant, worth $16.2 million, from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.

In addition to his leadership as CMIO, Dr. Babitch served as medical director with United Healthcare, where he oversaw pediatric and adult utilization for its Michigan, Ohio and Nebraska plans. Prior to his role as CMIO at the DMC, he served as chief compliance officer for his 150-member pediatric group as well as medical director for Ambulatory and Information Systems at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Prior to this, Dr. Babitch was a successful, private pediatrician in the St. Louis area and the leader of his group’s IT committee. He continues to practice pediatrics at the DMC; he also teaches pediatrics and medical administration for the Department of Pediatrics at Wayne State University, where he is an assistant professor.

Dr. Babitch received his medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine, and he completed his residency training in pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital/Washington University. He earned an MBA from Michigan State University and he completed his B.A. in Genetics and Developmental Biology at Northwestern University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Certified Medical Practice Executive, and is board certified in both pediatrics and medical informatics.
